Evening of culinary delights supports Children’s Concert Society
The Children’s Concert Society presented a Culinary Offering and Concert of Steel Saturday evening.
The benefit for the organization was held at the Crystal Room of the Gallucci Residence Hall at the University of Akron.
“We love to have the students showcased for their culinary experience but it’s also a great treat for us,” said event chairwoman Diane Lazzarini.
The Hospitality Club, with about a dozen students, prepared the meal, which consisted of delicacies from sushi to carrot cake.
Richard Davis and Kristina Perez-Cintron displayed their creations proudly.
“Just making the slider buns took six hours,” Davis said.
Carol Lewis, president of the Children’s Concert Society, said she hoped the event would raise $5,000.
There were unique raffle items on display, including a donation by artist Jim Pesce to create a replica of a home of your choice. Janet Hagstrom was eager to have a chance to win the drawing.
Artist Mary Jean Lyon donated jewelry for the benefit, including a bracelet and earrings made from Japanese metal-working techniques.
Other artwork included an original painting by Paul Hasson.
Supporters Margo Snider and Rick Butler checked out the items on display.
“I enjoy seeing friends that I haven’t seen for a long time and supporting the society,” said Lee Wallach, who attended with her husband, Art.
John Guran said he had wonderful memories of going to the orchestra as a child, “and I wanted to help preserve this for the next generation.”
Providing the steel drum entertainment were University of Akron Steel Drum band members Thomas Russell, Matt Dudack, Alex Fragiskatos and Joe Leaman.
